Monochrome Easter Basket Goodies from Independent Family Run Businesses
Its beginning to look a lot like Easter outside this week! Its still pretty cold but hey, I'll take cold and sunny over hot and rainy any day. And in fact Easter is almost upon us. Its a holiday that I used to celebrate by going to some bank holiday rave in a dark and gloomy warehouse in the middle of an industrial estate somewhere but now I take my son to church (we try to go on christmas and easter at least) and have a nice family roast dinner followed by LOTS OF CHOCOLATE! Although I'm not condoning that! In fact, the reason I'm writing this post is to give ideas of things to put in easter baskets that are not made of chocolate. I also want to show support for my fellow small, family run, design led businesses! So I have put together a few items that I will actually be giving my son for Easter and here's a little bit about each one.
The first item in the basket I would like to tell you about is the Black Na Na Na Batman Tableware Set with Tumbler from V and C Designs. They are a husband and wife led team with a passion for innovative and stylish designs. When their son, Maxwell, was born in 2013, it inspired them to really create a brand that they could grow and develop and designing wall art for his nursery and subsequent "big boy bedroom" as well as lots of fun stickers on the way meant he became their inspiration. They now design and create each individual order at their work studio using the highest spec printers in the industry. They make the CUTEST tableware for weaning babies and toddlers. They also have a White Superhero set and just introduced a Pink Superhero set as well! There is also a huge variety of wall art, wall stickers and wall vinyl, which is all crafted to order from premium quality, matt finish vinyl which blends perfectly into modern interiors, creating a look as though the images have been applied with paint.
The next item is the Cub Tee and Mr. Bear Leggings from Acorn and Pip. Acorn & Pip is a UK based online store dedicated to offering sustainable, organic and design-led products. They offer toys, clothing, nursery decor and gifts for mum. But the primary focus is to choose from the best and most beautiful organic and sustainable brands around the world for babies and children aged 0-4 years. It was started by mum Lucy after having her first baby, an experience that totally transformed the way she see the world," albeit slightly more tired, a world through the eyes of a child is a much more exciting and intriguing place!". I wholeheartedly agree and she has great taste in clothes as well!
The last item, other than our very own Monochrome Soft Patchwork Blocks, is the new book TRIANGLE written by Mac Barnet, and illustrated by Jon Klassen of 'I Want My Hat Back' fame and the subsequent 'Hat' books. It just came out this year and I have to say I am a big fan of Jon Klassen and this did not disappoint! Its actually the third book written by the pair and although I had not heard of the other two (award winning) books I am now definitely going to look into getting those for Owen as well! You can get this book and many other beautifully illustrated ones from online book retailer Smallprint. It is a family run business with mum Jenny at the helm, and they "believe in the power of books to do great things to the brain, to wake up our imaginations with a little shot of stimulation right when we need it." They couldn't find a one stop shop for lovely books that were special enough to be given to their friends and family, a bunch of people who love nice things and appreciate quality design. So they thought they would create it. Well I'm very glad they did! They also do a nightly 'story time' on their Instagram Stories at 6:45. So in a way you can try before you buy!
That just about sums up the the items that Owen will be getting for Easter this year, ok maybe a LITTLE BIT of chocolate! But seriously though, do check out ours and other small business alternatives to the sweet stuff because they will last a lot longer and make us all a lot happier in the end. And as a small business owner and mother I can vouch for that! I can only guarantee Easter delivery if orders are placed online by this Friday, 7 April. But I will also be at the Horniman Museum and Gardens Easter Fair on Sat 15th April from 10:30-4:30 for any last minute Easter bunnies. You can check out the event here. And as always if you want to subscribe to our monthly newsletter so you can be the first to know about new products, blog posts and sales before anyone else then sign up here. I hope you all have a happy Easter Holiday with family and friends, and don't go too crazy if you are off all week with the kids!
